In Transylvania, barely 160 km from today’s border, there are burned out, windowless, run down panel homes where young children lived a beggarly existence with hunger and great neglect. In a few years on that place a paradise was born. The miracle started in 1992 when on the streets of Deva to these hungry and dirty, aimlessly wondering orphans holding out their begging hands, someone responded with embracing arms. Csaba Bojte, a Franciscan monk and the orphan children broke down the locks of the long forsaken monastery of Deva and step by step created a home from the ruins of the old building. As the need demanded it, the run down panel homes became family homes and the monastery a school for the orphans whose number grew rapidly. Today more than 300 children are taken care of in these homes and the school.
